That girl you love, the one you'd walk across the city for? Yeah her. Shes not all the glory and fantasy that you want her to be. No. Her glossy eyes are in fact from lack of sleep and too much binge drinking on weekends. Her peaches and cream complexion, is pale, for lack of a better term, due to no sunlight in her 4x5 cubicle on the 16th floor of the financial building on West and Seventh. Her petite frame is sculpted by many a mid day vom sessions after a hearty lunch of 6 grapes and strawberry banana crystal light. Delightful. Her rosy lips, the ones you could kiss for days? They are raw and plagued by cheilitis, where the top layer of skin on the lips dries out to the point of not even existing, exposing the tender under layer, all due to a nervous habit of chewing her lips. Think about that next time you want to make out. Its a bleak reminder that you love merely a sack of bones and muscle and tissue thats slowly rotting away and decomposing everyday.

I came home to find Jack standing on our bed, wearing nothing but black pants, rolled up at the ankles. He was stabbing the ceiling with a broomstick, creating a rather large hole in it. Bits of plaster rained down, covering his head and shoulders in white powder. He stabbed harder and harder, chunks of the ceiling falling down onto our bed.

"Jack?" I called out.

He whirled around to face me, grinning largely, his skinny frame tense with excitement.

"Edith!!! I was hoping to finish this before you made it home. Its a surprise!" He gestured towards the massacre that was our ceiling.

"Its a skylight. So you can watch the stars at night from our bed when you can't sleep." He jumped off the bed and put the broom on the floor.

"Instead of going outside and sitting on the porch, you can lay in bed with me, and count them till you fall asleep."

That night, I did watch the stars. Jack lay beside me, breathing softly. He was proud of his work. The stars were more smeared looking than usual, due to the plastic that covered the hole. Jack stapled some around it to keep the bugs out until he could finish.

I secretly hoped he wouldn't. The sky looked like a Monet painting and this was the first time in months that I felt love for Jack.

I have made mistakes, all of which seemed monstrous at the time, yet prove to be trivial now. The only thing that kept me sane in those moments was knowing that in the end, it would all be diluted and feel not so disgustingly horrible in the end. Though most of my lessons were taught in the form of feeling, fearing, hoping, losing and loving, I really think that love is the most important emotion to understand and embrace fully, even though it is often the hardest to admit.

I have finally begun to understand me, even though its hard to believe. We are all made of layers and it is just a matter of time before more and more layers reveal themselves. Sometimes this happens quicker for some, slower for others. The latter are the people who have shallow, trivial relationships and work solely for the purpose of money alone, never really seeing the big picture. Sometimes you can't even look in the mirror some days because of what you have done or may do. This is all a part of life, it just happens to sting more than usual.

I began 2009 in a dingy, small apartment, surrounded by people I hardly knew, and people I would give the world for. I kissed a boy in my peach colored dress and felt wonderful and happy. We later hit a pole because the roads were so icy.

Standing under my balcony, I truly felt ashamed for the first time in my life. Real love does mean things sometimes.

In my bed, on the over pass, at a party, I realized that misguided love is strong and also forgiving. It is also, regrettably, flawed and headed towards a spiral of nonsense.

In my room, alone for hours, I learned that no matter how mad you are, you know its for only one reason, and one reason only. This is just as infuriating as being left alone for better things.

In the middle of August, I learned that I am the worst vegetarian. I also learned that monogamy isn't always real and that the boy you love probably likes someone else anyhow.

Sitting on the other end of the phone, I learned that no matter how hard you try, you cannot make anyone love you. No matter what you are willing to do.

In the first signs of fall, I learned that love slips away slowly in some cases, before you even notice it.

I also learned that some actions are simply unforgivable and truly scar you. These are the type of things that make you fear love for years to come.

During a few grey weeks, I learned that pulling both ends is extremely exhausting and makes you physically ill. I was sick for 2 full weeks.

In November, I learned that not all blame can be passed on to another, but also that its not worth working for if you're the only one who wants to carry on through.

On January 1st, 2010, a new light shone on me and I felt truly alone, yet alive. During this time I am thankful to the few people who felt like I needed their help, even when I felt like I didn't.

When the warmth of spring finally started to surface, I spotted a missing link, after several months of blurred vision and sleeplessness. It reminded me of so much undeserved love, the sourness of its departure, the pain of its emptiness. I learned that starting over is a slow process, sometimes painful, but admittedly wonderful. I learned that I have a lot of love to give.

I learned that the things you are most patient in waiting for are really the only things worth waiting for.

This year I have love, ohh man, I have loved, and I do not regret.

Currently taking a break from studying. I feel like I need to talk to someone, regardless if its actually no one and just here on this blog. Two weeks left of school. It's actually kind of insane how fast this year went by. It feels like everything happened in one long longggg day. I hardly remember a lot of specifics. Just increments of time. Have you ever been awake for 88 hours? That is nearly 4 days. After that long, you start to experience slowed speech and flattened emotional responses, as in not giving a shit, impaired memory and an inability to be novel or multitask. Even walking around is daunting. As you get to the point of falling asleep, you will fall into micro sleeps that cause lapses in attention, like randomly nod off while doing an activity like driving or reading and then finally experience hypnagogic hallucinations, the beginning of REM sleep
Everything feels like a dream. The air is literally hazy, and the sun is so incredibly bright it hurts. You hear everything and nothing at all.
I am so tired.
I cannot remember the last time I fell asleep before 3am save for alcohol induced comas.
There is this little piece of time, between 6am and 10am, when the sky turns from navy blue onward, that has become my salvation. Finally my brain dies and I am motionless entirely. A conflicting schedule, however, infringes upon this grace period and less then once a week this happens.
I think I should invest in a heavy nightcap.
